BIOGRAPHY

Kirsten Hines is a Coconut Grove, Florida-based author, wildlife photographer, and conservationist with a master’s degree in biology and background as an environmental educator. She has written numerous articles and five books including Attracting Birds to South Florida Gardens (University Press of Florida, Florida Authors and Publishers Book Award winner), Birds of Fairchild (Acclaim Press, Florida Authors and Publishers Book Award winner), Key Biscayne (Arcadia Publishing, Florida Authors and Publishers Book Award winner), Biscayne National Park (Arcadia Publishing), and Dry Tortugas National Park (Arcadia Publishing). Kirsten’s upcoming books include a pictorial history of Everglades National Park (Arcadia Publishing, 2022), and Wild Florida: The Animals of the Sunshine State (University Press of Florida, 2022), a coffee-table book of photography and essays aimed at presenting a current perspective on Florida’s wildlife.

Kirsten is dedicated to restoring South Florida’s natural areas, with a particular emphasis on re-greening the urban corridor, as demonstrated in her gardening books and her co-authorship of the online native plant resource, Natives for Your Neighborhood. Kirsten has given presentations on gardening for birds and other wildlife in South Florida’s unique environment at nearly 50 different venues across South Florida. She also regularly provides wildlife photography presentations and workshops and her images have been featured in various publications, photography showcases, public art programs, and nearly 100 exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally. She is a Conservation Associate of the Institute for Regional Conservation and a member of the board of Audubon Florida and her local chapter, Tropical Audubon Society.
